It has been nearly four years now since the last Rascal anime was released, and finally, a new trailer for Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out was just released to promote its upcoming theatrical run.
This new trailer was shared on the official Aniplex YouTube channel. Not only does it feature new footage from the upcoming movie, but it also reveals the film’s opening song that’s performed by Kaede VA Yurika Kubo.
New Rascal Does Not Dream Anime Movie Is Coming Soon
The Rascal Does Not Dream series is an anime by CloverWorks (of Bocchi the Rock! and My Dress-Up Darling fame) that’s based on the light novel series of the same name by Hajime Kamoshida.
While each light novel volume has a different title based on each book’s main heroine, the first anime season was titled Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Though it is an adaptation of the first five light novel volumes.
Thanks to the show’s more supernatural and psychological elements, the anime became a big hit when it aired in Fall 2018.
It also helps that many viewers fell in love with the main heroine, Mai Sakurajima.
Since then, the anime has not gotten renewed for a second season. But the adaptation did continue with the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl movie, which was released in June 2019.
It may have taken a long while, but finally, a new Rascal anime project was announced a few months ago, and it turned out to be another movie.
It is set to adapt the light novel’s next two volumes.

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out Trailer, Release Date
This upcoming film is titled Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out, though it adapts Volumes 8 and 9 of the novel series.
Volume 8 has the same title as the film, but Volume 9 is titled Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid.
As the title implies, the film will be about Kaede Azusagawa, the little sister of protagonist Sakuta Azusagawa.

Despite the years-long gap between the anime projects, the new movie will still be animated by CloverWorks.
Staff and cast members from the previous film are also coming back for this new movie.
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out will be released in Japanese cinemas on June 23, 2023.
Currently, there’s no word yet on a release date for the movie in other countries.
