Meghan Markle celebrated her birthday on Aug. 4, and some members of the royal family remembered her on her special day. For instance, Prince William and Kate Middleton posted a short but sweet greeting to the Duchess of Sussex together with one of her photos. However, Queen Elizabeth did not post a greeting for Prince Harry’s wife.
Did Queen Elizabeth Purposely Snub Meghan Markle On Her Birthday?
As such, Queen Elizabeth was accused of snubbing Meghan Markle. And according to royal expert Daniela Esler, the decision not to greet the Duchess of Sussex publicly was quite eyebrow-raising for some royal fans.
“Something has clearly changed because here we have the queen essentially blanking Meghan on her birthday. [This] may or may not have something to do with Harry’s memoir, rumored to be hitting shelves in October. Since the beginning of the year, there have been nearly continuous reporting claiming that Harry may well target his stepmother. The heir to the throne, it would seem, is already getting his starched and ironed knickers in a twist,” she said (via Express).

Queen Elizabeth Did Not Greet Meghan Markle Publicly Due To A Change In Tradition
However, royal correspondent Richard Palmer claimed that the queen’s lack of greeting for Markle didn’t have anything to do with Prince Harry’s memoir or any issue between the two parties. Instead, it had something to do with a change in tradition.
“The royal family will only mark the birthdays of non-working members of the family when they end in a zero,” he said.
Meghan Markle’s Birthday Would’ve Been The Perfect Opportunity For Reconciliation
However, Esler argued that if the queen and the royal family wanted to bury the hatchet with Markle, the first step would’ve been to greet her on her special day.
“The bottom line is that no matter why the Royal Family decided to give Meghan the brush-off, being the first non-working member of the House of Windsor to come in for a regal blanking on their birthday, has some serious sting in the tail. If Her Majesty had been concerned that cold-shouldering the LA native might inflame tensions or wanted to keep the peace with the fractious Sussexes, surely the palace would have waited to roll this new social media approach until after the Duchess’ birthday,” she said.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles did not also greet Markle publicly. But it’s highly likely for all members of the royal family to have greeted the Duchess of Sussex in private.
