Meghan Markle and Prince Harry wanted to continue doing their royal duties but on their own terms. Two years ago, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their plans to quit The Firm. But the couple also said that they asked permission from Queen Elizabeth if they would be allowed to work part-time while they are in the United States, but the monarch said no.
Meghan Markle Thought Working As A Part-Time Royal Would Elevate The Royal Family
Now, royal expert Neil Sean is sharing new details regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s thoughts when they proposed their plans to be part-time senior working royals to Queen Elizabeth. He said that Markle thought that working part-time could help elevate the royal family. And Prince Harry was reportedly upset that the queen did not approve their request.
“Harry and Meghan had this super plan, this half in and half out, sort of, plan. The background to that was Meghan, as ever, she truly believed that this would elevate the British monarchy onto a new level, an international level where people would genuinely think, you know, they're a superpower, a brand-new league of their own. On paper, some of her ideas did look quite good. I've been privy enough to see some of them. You see, it's the monarchy and they have spent over a thousand years putting their own brand together. [This] certainly wasn't going to change it in 10 minutes, on the arrival of some, sort of, B-list actress from a cable TV soap,” Sean said (via Express).

Prince Harry Couldn’t Believe That Queen Elizabeth Did Not Approve His Request To Work As A Parat-Time Royal
The royal expert also said that Prince Harry couldn’t believe that the queen turned him down. But the monarch was adamant about making sure that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wouldn’t be allowed to be half in, half out with their duties.
“There was no fancy, sort of, arguments or anything like that, Meghan and Harry thought they'd hatched the perfect plan for them to become an international ambassador, if you like, for the British monarchy,” Sean said.
And after the queen’s decision was made, Prince Harry and Markle reportedly knew that their destiny is in the United States.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Living Life In America
Since they quit The Firm, they have been residing in America with their two children. They continue to attend engagements and make public appearances as private citizens and not as senior working royals.
Every now and then, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex already reunite with the royal family but only as relatives of the queen, Prince Charles, and Prince William, and nothing more.
