Prince Charles and Prince William will soon be at the forefront of the British monarchy. They are both in line to be king, but Prince Charles is the one who will succeed Queen Elizabeth. Even though this is a known fact, some royal fans continue to express their hope for Prince William to take over The Crown instead of his father.

New Poll Reveals More Britons Want Prince William To Be Their King

A recent poll conducted by Express asked respondents whether Prince William should step in and allow Prince Charles to retire. Out of the 4,859 respondents, approximately 70 percent said yes to the question. Around 28 percent or over 1,000 respondents said no, while 2 percent said that they do not know.

Those that responded yes to the question also shared their thoughts on why they thought Prince William should be the king of Britain and not Prince Charles. One of them said that the future of the monarchy could be in jeopardy at the hands of Prince Charles. The same person said that Prince William is the one who could take them forward.

“Prince William and Kate need to be our next king and queen. They are pure and full of love for the people,” another respondent said.

“Prince William should be our king, not Prince Charles. William and Kate would be a great king and queen, it would be more for our country,” a third person commented.

The Order Of Succession States That Prince Charles, Not Prince William Will Succeed Queen Elizabeth

But regardless of what the public might have to say, the decision to overthrow Prince Charles doesn’t depend on them. In fact, the Order of Succession states that the queen’s firstborn son will succeed her when she passes away. This means that Prince Charles would become king regardless if he has the support of royal fans or not.

The University College London’s Constitution Unit also said that the Parliament would have to pass legislation to change the Order of Succession. But it’s unlikely for this to happen because Prince Charles has been waiting for his ascension for decades.

“Having waited over 60 years as heir apparent, it would be natural for Prince Charles to want to assume the throne and perform the royal duties for which he has spent so long preparing. But it would be equally natural if, after reigning for a few years as an increasingly elderly monarch, he chose to invite parliament to hand on the throne to Prince William,” they said.

Prince William Preparing For His Future Role As King

Meanwhile, other polls conducted by You Gov and Ipsos also showed the same results. More Britons reportedly want Prince William to be the next king of Britain.

In May, Ipsos shared the results of their poll that showed that 74 percent of the people that they surveyed think that Prince William will do a good job as king. And only 7 percent believe that he wouldn’t be good at his job.

According to reports, Prince William is already preparing for his future role even though he won’t be crowned until a couple more years.
