Prince William and Prince Harry didn’t reportedly grow up close to their dad, Prince Charles. When Princess Diana was still alive, Prince William and Prince Harry had a much better relationship with her compared to the heir to the throne. In fact, when the brothers spoke in a documentary about Princess Diana’s 20th death anniversary, no one mentioned Prince Charles’ name.

Prince William Already Forgave Prince Charles For Princess Diana’s Death

But over the years, Prince William’s relationship with Prince Charles reportedly improved. And according to royal commentator Sarah Vine, the Duke of Cambridge has already forgiven Prince Charles for the fallout of his marriage to Princess Diana.

“What is interesting about William, is that he seems to have got closer to his own father. After Diana's death, there was this, sort of, iciness a bit and, I think, a lot of recrimination. I don't know if you saw that documentary a few years ago, five or six years ago, where they talked about their mother. It was clear [in the documentary] that both the boys, to an extent, blamed Charles for a lot of what had happened. [They] felt very defensive of their mother but William seems to have come back to Charles now. Their relationship seems to have deepened and matured and there seems to be a lot of forgiveness,” Vine said (via Express).

Prince Harry Is Still Angry At Prince Charles

But according to Vine, the same cannot be said about Prince Harry. In fact, his relationship with Prince Charles has not improved over the years.

“[Harry] has gone the other way. There’s almost less forgiveness than William. He’s still very angry,” she said.

Since Prince Harry was much younger than Prince William when their mom died, he was forced to grow up without a mother figure in his life. The Duke of Sussex admitted that he struggled a lot during this time. And he also confessed to only seeking help much later in life after Prince William encouraged him to seek treatment.

In the Netflix documentary The Me You Can’t See, Prince Harry showed signs that he’s still upset with Prince Charles because of the things he said.

“My father used to say to me when I was younger, he used to say to both William and me, 'Well it was like that for me so it's going to be like that for you.’ That doesn't make sense. Just because you suffered doesn't mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact, quite the opposite. If you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences you had, you can make it right for your kids,” he said (via Marie Claire).

Prince William, on the other hand, has not spoken negatively about Prince Charles. Throughout the years, he has been very careful with his words because he’s the future of the monarchy.

Prince Charles, Prince William Hurt Over Prince Harry’s ‘Trapped’ Comments

In fact, Prince Charles and Prince William were united with what they reportedly felt after Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey aired last year. In March, the Duke of Sussex claimed that Prince Charles and Prince William, who are both future kings, are trapped.

“I was trapped, but I didn’t know I was trapped. My father and my brother are trapped. They don’t get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that,” Prince Harry said.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson said that Prince Harry put words in his dad's and brother’s mouths.

“I think Harry was putting words into his father and his brother’s mouths, and maybe making an assessment based upon his feelings. They were both very angry about that, both Charles and William. I don’t think it’s true, I don’t think he felt trapped in any way," Jobson said (via Marie Claire).
