Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship was still strained when Queen Elizabeth died unexpectedly on Sept. 8. As such, the brothers were left with no other choice but to reunite for the sake of their beloved grandmother.
Prince William And Prince Harry Have Not Been Comfortable Around Each Other
But a source recently told The Sunday Times that Prince William and Prince Harry’s reunion has been uncomfortable for both of them. Still, they are trying their best to get along with Queen Elizabeth.
Last weekend, the brother surprised the mourners when they made an appearance with their spouses, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, respectively. The brothers were seen chatting with each other. But the body language between the sisters-in-law was described as awkward at best.
Prince William and Prince Harry once again reunited when they stood vigil around the Queen’s coffin at Westminster hall alongside their other cousins. At the time, the brothers did not have the opportunity to chat because they were in mourning.
Prince William And Prince Harry Temporarily Set Aside Their Issues For Queen Elizabeth
A friend of Prince William and Prince Harry’s told the publication that the siblings understood that they needed to stand in solidarity during this difficult time. However, this doesn’t guarantee that their issues have already been resolved.
“I don’t think it goes much beyond that. There have been some awkward moments this week. I definitely don’t get the sense of any deeper meaningful rapprochement or a sense that this is it: things will be mended,” the source said (via Page Six).
Prince William And Kate Middleton Will Only Start Repairing Their Relationship With The Sussexes If They Do This
Another source told The Telegraph that Prince William and Middleton want the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to acknowledge their motives for doing an interview with Oprah Winfrey last year. And only after they’ve done, this can their relationship with the future king and Queen of Britain be repaired.
“They feel they’ve had to be steely to send a message that you cannot just say this hugely upsetting stuff without there being consequences,” the source said.
Another source told Us Weekly that the decision to invite Prince Harry and Markle to greet mourners last weekend wasn’t easy for Prince William.
“In the end, [William] elected to [invite them] because it was agreed amongst all of them that this very much the appropriate thing to do. For all of their differences in the past, many of which still linger, this was what the Queen would have wanted and William knew very well that it was no time to be holding onto grudges or distancing himself from his brother. They needed to put on a united front and pay their respects for her sake as well as the monarchy as a whole and the people she served so tirelessly during her reign,” the source said.
In the end, Prince William and Prince Harry’s love and respect for the Queen outweighed their issues with each other.
