Prince Charles will soon ascend the throne and be crowned king. After several decades of waiting for his ascension, Prince Charles no longer needs to wait very long before he starts leading the British monarchy. Even though this would mean that Queen Elizabeth is no longer around, the monarch is also preparing her eldest son for his important role.

Throughout the past couple of years, Queen Elizabeth has been battling some health issues. And just recently, it was revealed that she is experiencing decreased mobility because of her age. This means that Prince Charles has been taking over some of the queen’s royal duties and engagements.

Prince Charles Could Ask Prince Harry And Meghan Markle To Return After He Ascends The Throne

Following his coronation, Prince Charles would need all the help that he could get, especially since he reportedly wants to have a slimmed-down monarchy.

According to royal author Tina Brown, Prince Charles might even ask Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to return to their royal duties. After all, the monarchy won’t survive with only four senior working members and a slew of part-timers.

“My guess is Charles is really going to want them back – sort of needing them back, actually – because Harry and Meghan were huge assets to the whole royal repertoire, quite frankly. They had a young appeal that was very, very potent in the country,” she said (via Express).

Prince Charles Is Ready To Forgive Prince Harry And Meghan Markle

Royal author Katie Nicholl echoed Brown’s sentiments by saying that Prince Charles would be more than willing to bury the hatchet with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when the time comes. After all, he would need their help.

“He loves his son but he wants to forgive his son for everything. He wants to repair that relationship and move on. A big part of that is him wanting to be a grandfather and see those grandchildren. It may mean a few more transatlantic trips, but he wants to enjoy this experience,” Nicholl said.

However, Prince Charles cannot force Prince Harry and Markle to return to their royal duties. And the decision to continue servicing The Firm will depend entirely on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Other experts are convinced that the couple may eventually return as part-time royals who are still residing in the United States.

Prince Charles Could Allow Prince Harry And Meghan Markle To Return As Part-Time Royals

In April, royal author Tom Quinn told Us Weekly that having Prince Harry and Markle work as part-time royals might be the ideal arrangement for everyone.

“We’ve already heard Charles say he wants to streamline the royal family, [to] modernize it. I think Meghan and Harry are hoping … Charles will be open to [them being] part-time royals, which is what they wanted from the start.” Of course, the queen — who grew up with this sense that you’re either in fully or out fully — she wouldn’t allow [it], but Charles may well allow this,” he said.

Quinn also said that the internal arrangement could be for Prince Harry to be in Britain for six months and then return to the United States for the rest of the year.

“t would be better to say to Harry, ‘OK, we’ll do it the way you want to do it. You can be here for six months.’ It’s not as if being a working member of the royal family involves anything politically sensitive or controversial, because really when they’re full-time royals, they open hospitals. They, you know, give their names to charities. So that is possible that, that they could do that for half the year and, you know, do their other stuff in America,” he said.

As of writing, no such arrangement has been discussed, let alone finalized.
