Prince Charles previously broke records as the longest-serving “king in waiting.” And since he’s already in his 70s, the heir to the throne will also become the oldest king of Britain when he ascends the throne.

It is common knowledge among royal fans that the only time Prince Charles will be crowned as king is after Queen Elizabeth dies, abdicates, or retires. The last two options seem unlikely so the monarch’s death though heartbreaking is the only way for Prince Charles to become king.

Prince Charles Not Ready To Become King

Woman’s Day, in its Nov. 22 issue, claimed that after waiting for decades to ascend the throne, Prince Charles recently had a change of heart. The dad of two allegedly realized that he’s not ready to lead Britain and believes that his eldest son, Prince William is better suited for the job.

An unnamed palace insider claimed that Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth spoke shortly after the latter returned from the hospital. During their conversation, the future king confided his fears to the monarch, and he also suggested that Prince William should succeed the queen instead of him.

“It was an incredibly raw exchange. Having ma’am in hospital triggers all kinds of protocols in the event of her passing. And Charles was affected by it. His time at the climate summit reaffirmed what he really wants to do – activism,” the unnamed palace insider claimed.

Prince Charles also, allegedly, told Her Majesty that Prince William is her rightful successor because of his wife, Kate Middleton.

“Charles pointed out that William has Kate – and unlike Camilla, Kate’s always been adored by the public and could be a more effective queen. He also argued from a cost-saving perspective, it’s it best to pay for just one coronation instead of two in the space of a few years?” the unnamed source explained.

Queen Elizabeth Furious With Prince Charles

Even though the queen understands where her eldest son is coming from, she couldn’t allegedly help but feel upset with Prince Charles. After all, the queen just got out of the hospital, and the last thing she needs is more stress.

“Charles isn’t as strong as he was before his bout with COVID last year, and the queen did expect this. It isn’t the first time he’s come to her with self-doubt about stepping into her shoes. It’s hard for her to not get exasperated at Charles’ insecurities, but it’s also her duty to ensure a meltdown-free handover when she does leave this earth,” the unnamed source alleged.

According to the source, there’s no denying the fact that the queen worries about her son. However, she has no patience for emotional delays especially following her health scare. Additionally, duty always comes first for Her Majesty, and she knows she doesn’t have time to waste because of her delicate age.

Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles Cannot Change The Order Of Succession

Regardless of what the publication says, the queen and Prince Charles do not have the power to change the Order of Succession. After all, the Line of Succession is governed by the Act of Parliament and not by Royal Prerogative.

On Quora, Sallie Smythe, an avid reader of royal biographies, said that Prince Charles secured the line of succession following his birth. As the eldest child of the queen, he will succeed the monarch no matter what.

After his coronation, Prince Charles may opt to abdicate to give way to Prince William, but this seems unlikely. After all, the heir to the throne has been waiting for decades to ascend the throne.

Prince Charles May Not Be Called King Charles After His Coronation

According to Express, Prince Charles’ official moniker when he becomes king might also change. Since his full name is Charles Philip Arthur George, he can use any of these four names and combine them with his royal title. As such, Prince Charles could be known as King Charles, King Philip, King Arthur, or King George.

“He is free to choose his own regnal title. King Edward VII chose Edward as his regnal title, although hitherto he had been known by his first name of Albert. King Edward VIII also chose Edward as his regnal title, although he was known to his family and friends as David. Prince Charles's Christian names are Charles Philip Arthur George. Instead of becoming King Charles, he might choose to become King George VII, or King Philip, or King Arthur,” the Constitution Unit at the University College London’s School of Public Policy said.
