But despite his decision to step down from his job as a senior working royal, there were claims that Prince Andrew eventually tried to return to his duties.
King Charles Told Prince Andrew That He Can Never Return As A Working Royal?
But according to Daily Mail, Prince Andrew had an emotional and fraught conversation with King Charles days before Queen Elizabeth passed away. During their meeting, King Charles allegedly told Prince Andrew that he could never return as a working royal.
King Charles’ decision allegedly blindsided Prince Andrew and caused him to break down in tears. A source claimed that those close to the dad of two are worried about him because he was completely lost and depressed after his conversation with his older brother.
“He came out of the meeting shaken. He is still in shock. He is completely lost and very depressed,” the source said.

Prince Andrew Always Thought He Could Return To His Royal Duties Anytime?
The source added that Prince Andrew was utterly bereft because he always thought that he could eventually return to his royal duties.
“He always believed there was a way back. Andrew was extremely close to the Queen and tried to raise the issue of his return to public life many times with her. On some occasions, she would say mildly conciliatory things, but most of the time she would change the subject immediately. Naïve as it may sound, he always had hopes of regaining his position as a senior royal,” the source said.
In September, The Telegraph claimed that Prince Andrew talked to Queen Elizabeth in June regarding the possibility of reinstating his royal status. Sarah Ferguson’s ex-husband also allegedly wanted Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie to become senior working royals.
Prince Andrew Wanted To Create His Own Duties?
Royal expert Omid Scobie also penned an article about Prince Andrew’s royal future last month. He said that some palace sources claimed that the Duke of York was confident that he could return to the royal fold as long as he had the support of his mother.
“Not that he ever thought he would be a working royal again, but he did discuss creating duties of his own, through philanthropic efforts and being seen as the supportive son of the Queen. These would contribute to rehabilitating his image. Not as the Duke of York, but simply as a man who wanted to do good,” the source said (via Yahoo! News).
