Pokemon Go is Just the Beginning for Niantic

There's no doubt that Pokemon Go put Niantic Labs' name on the map. While the studio may have had a first game that made use of pretty much the same technology, it's this title that players will remember—for the good, the bad, and everything in between.

With success still in its grasp even after a lot of hiccups, Niantic's Mike Quigley weighs in on where exactly the studio is in an interview with Games Industry. And from the looks of it, the studio is not stopping what it has already started with this year's biggest mobile game.

First off, the studio is not hiding the fact that it plans to add some more to the gaming experience of Pokemon Go.

"Right now, we are taking a portfolio approach. Granted, there are only two games in the portfolio right now. We've said for years that we are looking to enable other IP holders and developers to create these types of experiences on our technology platform. We want other developers using our technology. Pokemon Go is the first example of that."

While Niantic Labs is still looking at the long-term growth of the company and its list of projects, it seems that Pokemon Go is still looking at quite a future for the game. Quigley noted that the team has finally come out of the very eventful launch as well as the happenings after it.

Now, the goal is to show fans that they will still be working on Pokemon Go, so much so that fans can still invest in the game for engagement in the long run.

"Hopefully, we can keep a lot of those people engaged. Some will lapse out, that's the nature of mobile free-to-play and we've all seen those curves. But we are not really focused on that. we are focused on making it a great game, continuing to invest in it, and the consumers can decide."

For now, Quigley shared that the team will continue rolling out support for both of its games. With the partnership with The Pokemon Company still pretty strong, it's no question that Niantic will still be bent on delivering some quality updates to ensure that it meets its current target.

Pokemon Go has recently enjoyed its Halloween event, as well as a new update that brought on daily challenges for players to complete.
