Pokemon Go’s Niantic Shares The Journey & Plans

Niantic Labs has been a kind of hit-or-miss developer in terms of whether fans love the studio or hate them. And it's all because of Pokemon Go.

Granted, the app has been getting quite a number of things right: the Halloween event has been a success; changes to encourage daily play, and even a smart way to use the game as a tourism boost in Japan. However, there have also been quite a few steps back, such as having unmentioned and hated change or the broken Tracker.

Niantic's Chief Marketing Officer Mike Quigley spoke with Eurogamer to discuss the journey that the game has seen, as well as plans for its future.

For starters, Quigley admitted that the launch had been overwhelming. Even with the success of Pokemon Go, it had its share of issues that had resulted in sleep les nights and a lot of awkward positons for the developers. The main wish was for them to have had the necessary resources during the launch period, but according to Quigley, the important part now was to let fans know that they are hearing what's being said.

Quigley also said that even though there are some issues in the game, such as the Nearby feature, the team is still very much working on these things. They may not arrive in the timeline expected, but the developer recognizes its importance to the community because of the frequency of feedback on these aspects of Pokemon Go.

As far as the recently sighted ‘mons in the game, Quigley has been coy about giving any details. When asked regarding the Ditto launch, his only tip for fans is to stay tuned. He did, however, confirm that Legendaries are coming—but the "when" part is still indefinite.

"Legendaries are very important part of the franchise. We do intend to release them so, yes. We do have a plan. As new features start to release, hopefully time will show that yes, those things were in the works."

Pokemon Go currently has a nice event happening for Japan.
