On February 19, 2023, about a week before the release of Season 3, the series has been renewed for Outer Banks Season 4 which will exclusively come out on Netflix following the vein of the previous seasons of the show.

Outer Banks Season 3 witnessed the ending of the quest for the gold El Dorado and they finally closed the narrative of the father of John B. after everything that they have uncovered throughout Season 3.

In the finale of Outer Banks Season 4, it is revealed that Sarah and John B. has settled having their own surf shop but something is still going on as a stranger arrives with a manuscript of what seems a detailed captain's log of the pirate, Blackbeard.
John B seems to be excited rather than scared and that means that he is up again for another adventure where he is expected to take the others with him.
There is also the fact that Rafe is missing in action in the finale which teases a villainous path for him following Ward's death.
