This year has been a great one for anime so far (if you don’t count the Winter 23 delays), but a recent poll revealed that Oshi no Ko is the best series of 2023 so far, at least based on Generation Z fans in Japan.

Recently, the results of a poll by Otona Answer were shared, and it turns out that younger Japanese anime fans think Oshi no Ko is the best show of the year’s first half.

This is an interesting result given that the Spring 2023 season featured lots of big titles.

Ahead of Spring, lots of anime fans probably thought that Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc might become the anime of the season. After all, the previous two seasons and the movie were huge hits.

But after Oshi no Ko's feature-length first episode, the show made a huge enough splash that it became one of the biggest, if not the biggest show of Spring.

While streaming and broadcast numbers may still have Demon Slayer higher, Oshi no Ko was easily one of the most-discussed shows online during its run thanks to its unique story that sheds light on the idol industry.

Along with the story, the anime’s songs were also viral hits, especially the opening song Idol by YOASOBI.

Not only did the song top Billboard’s Global chart, but it also became a huge trend even among K-pop idols.

Recently, Otona Answer polled over 2,600 Japanese Gen Z anime fans aged 10 to 24.

The poll’s results reveal that Oshi no Ko is considered the respondents' favorite as it took the top spot.

Following the show are Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown Arc and Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc—not surprising given that these two shows are huge in Japan.

Though this makes Oshi no Ko topping the poll more impressive given that it beat two of the biggest shonen titles in the country.

What’s also interesting is that Loving Yamada at Lv999! and Mashle are in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

Meanwhile, shows such as Heavenly Delusion, Vinland Saga, and Hell’s Paradise didn’t crack the top 10.

Given its popularity, it’s no surprise that Oshi no Ko revealed that Season 2 has been confirmed right after its final episode.
