One Piece Film: Red Gets Novel Adaptation


One Piece Film: Red is finally coming to (Japanese) theaters in August and it looks like fans will also be able to enjoy the story in its book form. The movie has been confirmed to get a novel adaptation that will be published soon after its premiere.

Shueisha has added a listing for the One Piece Film: Red novelization under its Jump J-Books imprint. The novel will be written by long-time One Piece collaborator Jun Esaka who is returning to the franchise to adapt the screenplay by Tsutomu Kuroiwa. The new book will be published three days after the premiere of the movie.

One Piece Film: Red will follow the world's most popular diva named Uta as she prepares for her first concert on the island of her birth. "As the Straw Hat crew led by Monkey D. Luffy, other pirates, the Navy, and fans from all over the world who enjoy her voice have arrived, Uta's voice is heard in a new light. The curtain rises on the story with the shocking revelation that she is the daughter of Red-Haired Shanks."

One Piece Film: Red will be directed by Goro Taniguchi while Eiichiro Oda himself serves as executive producer on the movie.

The film will star Mayumi Tanaka as Monkey D. Luffy, Kazuya Nakai as Roronoa Zoro, Akemi Okamura as Nami, Kappei Yamaguchi as Usopp, Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji, Ikue Otani as Chopper, Yuriko Yamaguchi as Nico Robin, Kazuki Yao as Franky, Cho as Brook, Katsuhisa Hoki as Jimbei, and Shuichi Ikeda as Red-Haired Shanks. Kaori Nazuka will play Uta in the movie.

One Piece Film: Red will be released in theaters in Japan on August 6, 2022. The international release dates have not yet been announced. The novelization will be available on August 9, 2022.
