One Piece Creator Eiichiro Oda Confirms When Uta Appeared in the Manga

One Piece Uta Manga

As more fans have now seen the latest One Piece movie following its US release, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda recently confirmed when Uta appeared in the manga.

Specifically, it was revealed by Oda in a recent commentary of One Piece Film: Red that Uta appeared in a recent manga chapter.

While it’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, this does pretty much confirm Uta’s canon status.

One Piece: Is Uta Canon?

Uta is one of the principal characters in the latest One Piece film, and in the series' world, she is the most popular singer.

The film follows the Straw Hat Crew as they attend Uta’s concert.

During the concert, Luffy reveals that Uta is a friend of his from his childhood as she is the daughter of the legendary pirate, Red-Haired Shanks.

Because she’s the daughter of an Emperor, Uta is the target of many other pirates. Thus begins the events of One Piece Film: Red.

Typically, One Piece movies are not canon, though there are some exceptions.

While the stories of all movies aren’t canon, there are characters that are confirmed to be canon -- such as Uta.

Before the film’s release in Japanese cinemas, it was confirmed that Uta is the first canon movie character in the series in 13 years. This means Uta is an official character in the One Piece manga.

As for the film’s events, they're not exactly canon. Essentially, you can think of Uta being canon, but the events in the film aren’t.

The canon status of the film’s details is also a bit fuzzy as with most other films in the franchise.

As spotted by @newworldartur on Twitter, Eiichiro Oda’s commentary revealed that Uta made an appearance in One Piece Chapter 1055.

In case you need a refresher, this chapter is set in the aftermath of the Raid on Onigashima.

Here, Admiral Aramaki is seen attacking Wano while Momonosuke and company are fighting him off.

However, his attack is stopped by Shanks with the use of Conqueror’s Haki. In this part of the chapter, Uta is shown as a silhouette.

While this is just a minor flashback appearance, this puts to rest any debate about Uta being a canon character in the series.

Though as for future appearances, it remains to be seen if we’ll ever see Uta in her current form in the manga.
