The latest episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi introduced a cool new character who turned out to play an important role in aiding the Jedi Master. Game of Thrones fans were also thrilled to see Indira Varma playing a strong woman who helps a powerful man. However, it looks like Star Wars initially had other plans for Tala Duruth. Varma has just revealed that the Imperial officer was almost introduced as a possible love interest to Kenobi!
In Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 3, Kenobi and Leia Organa met Tala Duruth, an Imperial officer who was actually working with Haja Estree. Although the connection between Kenobi and Duruth is viewed as being purely platonic, Indira Varma told Entertainment Weekly that Star Wars may have had other plans for the spy.
"There had already been different incarnations of the script and the story line," Varma said. "And I think, originally, she was going to be a love interest."
Before Satine Kryze fans flip tables, Varma stated that the creative team decided not to take that direction. "They felt that it was maybe a bit clichéd where always the woman turns up and they fall in love or whatever," she said. "And it's more interesting that this is a woman with agency who is not just going to fall at the feet of Obi-Wan."
We certainly agree and it's better to see Duluth as someone who works with Kenobi with no romantic attachments. Still, Varma stated she feels that her character does have strong feelings for the Jedi.
"I do think in my heart that she's in love with him," she said. "Because she's prepared to give up everything to further his quest and to help him out. So that's my little secret thing that's going on inside."
Either way, we're hoping that Duluth is someone who can help Kenobi in the series because he does need friends right now.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4 will premiere on Disney+ on June 8, 2022.
