How Many Episodes Will There Be in Obi-Wan Kenobi?


Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) is just weeks away, and Star Wars fans are already hoping that the show will restore some faith following the so-so reception of The Book of Boba Fett (2021). But there's something else on our minds: How many episodes will there be in Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Obi-Wan Kenobi follows the titular Jedi as he tries to survive in a galaxy ruled by the Empire. 10 years have passed since the Clone Wars, and now, Darth Vader has dispatched The Inquisitors to hunt down any surviving Jedi.

However, Obi-Wan must also watch over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. But training the boy to become a Jedi will mean putting his life at risk, as the Imperial forces will be relentless in their hunt to render the Jedi extinct.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a highly anticipated Star Wars TV series, and will be the third live-action show so far, following The Mandalorian (2019) and The Book of Boba Fett. However, it will be the first to orbit a different part of the timeline.

Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place 10 years after Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), or Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) if you're more familiar with the movies than the animated shows.

This means that the show will take place four years before Star Wars: Rebels (2014), and nine years before Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). So needless to say, there are some pretty high expectations.

The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett are both set five years after the original Star Wars trilogy, so it's unlikely that there will be any connection between Obi-Wan Kenobi and those shows.

While it's entirely possible that the likes of Din Djarin and Grogu could show up (no one expected them to appear in The Book of Boba Fett), the new trailer suggests that the series will be more economical than the previous ones.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will actually be the shortest Star Wars TV series so far, described as a "six-part event". Although with that said, there's no telling how long each episode might be.

The Book of Boba Fett had only seven episodes under its belt, as opposed to the eight we're used to with The Mandalorian, but some of those episodes were actually a lot longer than those in the latter.

We'll just have to wait and see, but somehow, less already feels like more. Let's just hope there aren't any episodes dedicated to a character other than the titular one. Unless of course, it's Darth Vader...
