Natalie Portman Discusses Being a 'Newbie' Superhero in Thor: Love and Thunder

Natalie Portman isn't exactly a newcomer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, she has already starred in two MCU films before her return in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, Portman still feels like a "newbie" considering that this will be the first time we'll see her as the Mighty Thor. Not surprisingly, the Black Swan actress admitted that it took a lot of hard work to become a superhero!

Natalie Portman was interviewed for the new issue of Total Film where she admitted that it was a big thing to be the "Newbie Thor" in Thor: Love and Thunder.

"It’s exciting to get to be a superhero," Portman said. "And there’s no guidebook that comes along and tells you how to do it."

Although she didn't get a guidebook, Portman didn't shy away from the training regimen that would prepare her for her role as the Mighty Thor.

"I trained for a long time before and during, and I was doing the whole protein shakes [thing]. It really helped prepare me for the level of action that we ended up doing," she said. Portman also pointed out that it was important if she wanted to wield Mjolnir while wearing a cape.

"We had incredible stunt doubles who did the really hard stuff, but there’s still a great deal of running and jumping and swords and hammer-fighting. It was definitely helpful to be strong. To have that weight of the cape all day, you want to have some upper-body strength," she said.

We're glad to know that Natalie Portman put in the work to make sure Jane Foster's transformation into the Mighty Thor would be a convincing one. Needless to say, we can't wait to see her in action next month.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
