Moon Knight Writer Confirms Bushman Still Exists in the MCU

With Moon Knight stepping out from the spotlight as the first Marvel series slated for this year on the streaming service Disney+, Oscar Isaac's Steven Grant, Marc Spector, and Jake Lockey are at the top of every Marvel fan's mind. Aside from Isaac, Ethan Hawke's Arthur Harrow blew the fans away with his first villainous role in the mega-franchise. However, Moon Knight writer reveals that Arthur Harrow wasn't the initial choice for the series, instead, it was supposed to feature Moon Knight's comic book arch-nemesis, Bushman.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater reveals that Bushman is still wandering around the MCU, although he isn't sure if he still has his face.

"I don't know if he still has his face. That's a good question," Slater said. "He's definitely still out there. And I think at some point in Moon Knight's journey, you're going to have to involve Bushman."

While its no doubt that Moon Knight's villain Ethan Hawke showcased an impressive portrayal of the villain Arthur Harrow, Slater still attempted to bring Bushman as the villain of the show. Unluckily, the overarching story won't work for the live-action series.

Slater explained, "I tried very hard to get him in there in a couple different versions of Bushman. And there were just a lot of reasons why he wasn't great as an antagonist for this first story. The main one was just that we had to start from Steven's perspective. That was something I really believed in right from the beginning is that you're never going to make people fall in love with Marc, unless they fall in love with Steven first. And we realize Marc is Steven's protector. But by doing it in that order and starting from Steven's perspective, it made it very hard to have Bushman show up because Bushman is just a guy with a gun. And that immediately makes him way too lethal for Steven. Bullet in the head, Steven's gone."

"The only way to remedy that would be to give Bushman superpowers to make him his own avatar," Slater added. "And that just felt like we didn't have the real estate to introduce that character and take him on a journey and get him to that point," the writer concludes. "It felt like we needed an onscreen villain in those first couple episodes, so we had to reverse engineer Arthur Harrow."

It’s certain that fans would love to see a live-action version of the well-known Moon Knight arch-nemesis. Unfortunately, with the Egyptian myth theme of the series, Bushman doesn't really fit as a Moon Knight villain, since the character doesn't have any special abilities.

Bushman is an expert in guerrilla warfare and highly proficient in the use of most conventional firearms. He has peak human physical strength and is highly athletic and agile.

Nevertheless, fans don't have any complaints with Ethan Hawke's Arthur Harrow as it perfectly fits the Egyptian mythology that the series centers on. But with Slater's latest statement, it appears that they developed something for Bushman, not just for the Moon Knight's first installment.

All episodes of Moon Knight are streaming on Disney+.
