While the series’ first half is set to end with the finale in two weeks, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury revealed its official episode count, and fans have a lot more episodes to look forward to.
The episode count wasn’t revealed via a news update as you might have expected. Instead, it was revealed in the details of the show’s Blu-ray & DVD release.
The Witch from Mercury Split-Cour Release Schedule
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is one of the stand-out shows of the Fall 2022 season as it typically trends on Twitter following every episode’s release.
Its hype comes from multiple reasons, one of which is the fact that it’s the first new Gundam anime in seven years, with the last TV anime being Iron-Blooded Orphans.
Another thing that makes it stand out is the fact that it is the first Gundam TV anime to feature a female protagonist in Suletta Mercury.
Many previous Gundam shows have had around 50 episodes, but The Witch from Mercury is a bit shorter than that.
Previously, it was confirmed that the show will have a split-cour release format, meaning it was expected to have 24-26 episodes.
An anime season is typically called a cour, with each cour having 11-13 episodes on average. A split-cour release schedule means that a series will have two cours, but they won’t be shown consecutively.
One split-cour anime example is Spy x Family. Its first cour aired in the Spring 2022 season. It then skipped the summer season and resumed with Part 2 in Fall 2022.

The Witch from Mercury Episode Count
On the show’s official website, The Witch from Mercury is listed with eight Blu-ray and DVD volume releases.
The eighth volume is set to release on December 22, 2023, and will include Episodes 22 to 24.
Because of this, The Witch from Mercury is confirmed to have 24 episodes, but that doesn’t include the prologue episode which was released ahead of its proper premiere.
If the prologue is counted, the latest Gundam anime has 25 episodes in total.
What’s not clear is if the show’s story will end on the 24th episode. There are some fans who believe a second season will be needed to tell the full story, but that remains to be seen.
In the meantime, you can watch the finale of The Witch from Mercury’s first cour on January 8, 2023, on Crunchyroll in the US and other countries.
