Reigen is not the main character, but he is arguably the show’s fan favorite. And now, Mob Psycho 100’s Reigen is trending online, but not for the reason you might think.
Today on Twitter, Reigen Arataka trended around the world with over 50k Tweets as of this article’s writing. While this might be chalked up to the hype for Mob Psycho 100 Season 3, Reigen trended for a different reason.
Recently, two fan contests were held on Twitter: Best Twink and Best DILF. Against all odds, Reigen took home the win in both contests.
Both contests happened within just a few days of each other. And because of the hilarious result of both, tons of fans celebrated the win of their favorite character.
If you’re on the internet, you probably already know what "twink" and "DILF" mean. If not, "twink" is gay slang for a man with an attractive and boyish or youthful appearance. Some examples from the anime contest include Kurapika from Hunter x Hunter and Angel from Chainsaw Man.
Meanwhile, a DILF refers to an attractive man who appears to be 30-50 years old and has kids. Some examples from anime include Loid Forger from Spy x Family and Maes Hughes from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
It’s fair to say that Reigen does not fit either label as he neither looks boyish nor does he look like an attractive dad. But Reigen’s appeal transcends labels, it seems.
Thanks to his win, fans began posting even more contest wins for Reigen, showing just how powerful he is.
Reigen trending online makes sense if you’re a fan of the show. After all, he is one of the series’ most memorable characters. On top of this, fans consider him as a tier anime sex symbol (both ironically and unironically).
Aside from more polls, Reigen’s contest wins also became the subject of tons of fan art:
The show’s third season is set to premiere this October, with a Crunchyroll release confirmed in several regions outside Japan.
