Minions: The Rise of Gru is a prequel to the first four Minions movies. It shows the childhood Gru and how he became a villain. The movie is set in the 1970s when Gru was 12 years old.
Gru had already set his mind to becoming a villain, so he met up with The Vicious 6 hoping that he would be accepted as a brand new member. To prove himself worthy, Gru stole a precious stone with the help of his Minions, but he soon discovers that one of his henchmen isn't so trustworthy at all, after losing their loot.
Gru soon finds himself with a formidable army, and he discovers that being a villain is the walk in the park he thought it would be. He seeks help from Wild Knuckles, the former member and leader of The Vicious 6, and the one he sought to replace. Along with troves of his loyal, yellow Minions, Gru will do whatever it takes to get what he wants and to reach for his dreams.
Universal released a summary for the movie and a part of it read:
When the infamous supervillain supergroup, the Vicious 6, oust their leader—legendary martial arts fighter Wild Knuckles (Oscar® winner Alan Arkin)— Gru, their most devoted fanboy, interviews to become their newest member. The Vicious 6 is not impressed by the diminutive, wannabe villain, but then Gru outsmarts (and enrages) them, and he suddenly finds himself the mortal enemy of the apex of evil. With Gru on the run, the Minions attempt to master the art of kung fu to help save him, and Gru discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.
