Despicable Me is one of the most popular and recognizable animated franchises and has held that position for over a decade. The hype might have quietened down over the years, but Gru and the Minions are here to stay -and bring an incredible box office while at it. So, can we expect a new Despicable Me film and, if so, when will it release?
When Despicable Me first came out in 2010 there was no way to tell how very popular it would become. Criminal mastermind Gru and his three adopted daughters gave fans enough of a good time to guarantee a second film in 2013.
And, of course, no one could initially predict the rendition of the minions into pop culture icons – we've all seen them on all sorts of merch, from stationery and school bags to stuffed toys and clothes. They even got their own movie in 2015. Not a masterpiece, but you can't deny that their gibberish world is funny to watch.
Following this successful route, Despicable 3 was only a matter of time and it came out in 2017. Unlike its predecessors, it did not win any of the awards it was nominated for but the box office was excellent at $1.035 million. The reviews were slightly less favorable as well, but the movie was nevertheless entertaining for fans.

As of October 2021, no release date has been announced for Despicable Me 4 but Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri has confirmed that it is in the making, promising an amazing story. We don't know the details yet, but we expect that another villain could come up to make life hard for Gru.
Meanwhile, another spinoff, Minions: The Rise of Gru is scheduled to be released on the 1st of July 2022, so that's something fun to look forward to. When the fourth Despicable Me filmed has a confirmed release day, we'll update this space with more information.
