Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding in 2018 was, perhaps, one of the most memorable occasions in the history of the British clan. However, it wasn’t free from controversies. In the past, there were rumors that Markle made Kate Middleton cry during her bridesmaid dress fitting, but the Duchess of Sussex later clarified that it was the other way around.
Meghan Markle Had An Awkward Encounter With Queen Elizabeth
However, this wasn’t the only controversy that Meghan Markle faced ahead of her royal wedding to Prince Harry. While speaking with Yahoo’s Royal Box, royal author Katie Nicholl revealed that Markle had an encounter with Queen Elizabeth over eggs.
She said that the Duchess of Sussex made it clear that she wanted eggless dishes served at her wedding because some of her friends might be allergic to them. But during her food tasting, Markle insisted that she could taste eggs in one of the dishes that was served to her.
Palace staff told her time and again that they didn’t put eggs in the dish, but Prince Harry’s wife didn’t want to believe them. Since the food tasting took place at Windsor Castle, it was only a matter of time before Queen Elizabeth heard the heated discussion between Markle and the palace staff.

“Meghan got very upset when she felt that she could taste egg in a dish when she was told there was no egg in there, and she said, 'No, I can taste it, I can taste there's egg in this dish. I think there was a bit of an upset when suddenly the Queen walked in, because of course, this was Windsor Castle, this is her home,” Nicholl said.
The queen reportedly took Markle to the side and told her that she can’t talk to the palace staff that way.
“In this family, we don’t speak to people like that,” the queen reportedly said.
Meghan Markle Accused Of Bullying Palace Staff
Even though this anecdote was only revealed recently, there were already previous claims that Markle bullied palace staff. In fact, her alleged mistreatment of the palace staff was reportedly one of the reasons why Prince William and Middleton became upset with her.
The Times was first to publish the allegations that reportedly happened between Markle and her former communications secretary, Jason Knauf.
“The treatment of [name redacted] was totally unacceptable. The duchess seems intent on always having someone in her sights. She is bullying [name redacted] and seeking to undermine her confidence. We have had report after report from people who have witnessed unacceptable behavior towards [name redacted]. Prince Harry pleaded with Knauf not to pursue it,” the publication claimed.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Deny Bullying Allegations
At the time, Buckingham Palace released a statement saying that they would investigate the allegations.
“The Royal Household has had a Dignity at Work policy in place for a number of years and does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace,” the statement read.
Upon hearing the allegations, Prince Harry and Markle responded by calling the accusations a calculated smear campaign based on false and misleading information. Markle’s longtime friend, Janina Gavankar also sided with her on the matter and said that the Duchess of Sussex has no history of ever mistreating other people.
“I have known Meghan for 17 years, and I have seen the way she regards people around her and the people she works with, and I can say she is not a bully,” Gavankar said.
