Prince Harry reportedly had to interject when Meghan Markle was speaking because she said something that upset the foundation they were representing, according to a new book. The incident happened during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's first and only joint engagement with Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2018.
Prince Harry Interrupted Meghan Markle During Fab Four Engagement While Onstage
British investigative journalist Tom Bower — who is popular for his biographies of the royal family and other notable figures in the world — dropped his new book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors, where he shared some details during the Sussexes and Cambridges' joint engagement in 2018, Mirror reported.
Months before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding, they joined forces with Prince William and Kate Middleton by attending an engagement for The Royal Foundation. According to. Bower, it was Markle's first engagement with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
When she spoke about MeToo and TimesUp, Prince Harry simply interjected his then-fiancee and now-wife to remind her not to get ahead of herself.
"With so many campaigns like MeToo and TimesUp, there’s no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them," she told the audience, as quoted by Mirror.
"You’ll often hear people say, 'Well you’re helping people find their voice' and I fundamentally disagree with that, because women don’t need to find a voice. They have a voice, they need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen."
Prince Harry reportedly saw his brother's "rictus grin," and he raised the fact that they still had a wedding to plan.
"Wedding first," Prince Harry loudly whispered, interjecting Markle.
"'We can multi-task,' Markle replied to the unexpected interruption," according to Bower.
The fab four laughed at Prince Harry's comment.
However, according to Mirror, there was a much more sinister reason behind his interjection.
Why Meghan Markle Upset The Foundation
According to Bower, although Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William and Kate Middleton are royal patrons, they have limited influence on its direct activities, and Markle's words reportedly upset the foundation's executives and created an awkward atmosphere among the royals.
"That power was exercised by the Foundation’s executives, an unimpressive group criticised for ineptly moving the royals around like chess pieces," Bower explained.

"While William, Kate and Harry had become accustomed to their motley behaviour, Meghan’s arrival as a natural recruit for the Foundation’s philanthropic work disturbed the rhythm of the executives’ habits. Her feminism also upset their ingrained conservatism."
Bower claimed that Markle ignored the "royals' role impartially to foster national unity." He went on and seemingly criticized the former actress.

"Instead of speaking about mental health, she had been swept up by her vision of a modern monarchy...She imagined herself as centre-stage rather than recognising the reality of standing on the periphery," Bower continued. "As the discomfort among the four became obvious, William tried to restore harmony."
The author added that while they should be "relevant to their generation," the fab four "should not reinvent the wheel."
