Meghan Markle graced the 2017 Vanity Fair cover. However, she was reportedly upset because it didn't turn out the way she expected it to be, according to a new book. Instead of highlighting her charity and philanthropic works, it focused on her royal romance with Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle Reportedly Complained With Her 2017 Vanity Fair Cover

The Duchess of Sussex made the cover of Vanity Fair magazine amid her royal romance with Prince Harry in 2017. However, Meghan Markle was reportedly not happy with the final results when she saw the magazine with the headline that read, She’s Just Wild about Harry.

British journalist and author Tom Bower, who is popular for numerous biography, including Prince Charles' unauthorized biography The Rebel Prince, is releasing a new book about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. In his new tome titled Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors, the acclaimed writer said Markle wasn't happy with the cover.

First, Buckingham Palace was surprised with her brazenness, according to Bower's excerpt in The Times. It reportedly appeared that Markle used her relationship with Prince Harry to promote herself.

"The Hollywood-isation of the royal family had sealed Meghan’s fate as Harry’s fiancée," Bower wrote.

Markle was also upset and even called Ken Sunshine and Thomas Morgan and allegedly "hysterically," told them about the palace's fury.

She also informed her PR firm, Sunshine Sachs, that they should have ensured her comments about Prince Harry were removed, and the cover should have focused on her philanthropy and activism. It should have also highlighted the 100th episode of her hit legal series Suits. Unfortunately, it highlighted her royal romance, instead.

"She complained because she wasn’t presented in the way she wanted," said Sam Kashner, a long-standing contributing editor at the magazine who was assigned with the interview. "She demanded that the media do what she expects. I felt manipulated."

Vanity Fair agreed to do one "correction," and it was related to the timeline of her relationship with Prince Harry. There were speculations that she was still with chef Cory Vitiello in mid-July 2016, and she met Prince Harry in May. Markle said she met her now-husband in July and not May. The magazine published the change.

What Did Meghan Markle Say In Her Vanity Fair Cover That Infuriated The Palace?

In the Vanity Fair article, Kashner asked Meghan Markle about Prince Harry, and she confirmed their romance.

"We’re in love. I'm sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time," Markle said.

According to Tom Bower's excerpt, Markle was "under strict orders" from both Prince Harry and Thomas Morgan that she should keep herself away from sensitive objects, including Donald Trump, race, their relationship and especially Prince Harry himself. The royal prince was supposed not to be mentioned.

Following her complaint, Markle was reportedly told that she "didn’t get the cover in her own name . . . but because of who she was likely to marry," making the interview more about her royal romance or connection with Prince Harry.
