Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received an intense backlash ahead of their Netflix docuseries. Many criticized them when Harry & Meghan debuted last week, and the scrutiny was non-stop. However, they are reportedly winning the PR battle, according to a report.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Victorious Over PR Battle Despite Non-Stop Backlash?
Several royal fans and experts slammed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their remarks in Harry & Meghan. However, one believed that they are still victorious despite the backlash.
"Mixed reviews so far, but the overwhelming feeling is that the couple are winning the PR brand management strategy," Noel Phillips told Good Morning Britain from New York, Express reported.
"Harry and Meghan are not just rewriting the royal narrative that we all know of their lives so far, but they are creating this brand new American fairytale and it seems to be resonating with a lot of people."
Phillips recalled speaking to one woman who was emotional and in tears while watching the docuseries. According to the woman, the Sussexes were "couple goals."
"Another man said, 'I was expecting a lot of drama and for tea to be spilled'. I assume he's referring to the accusations of racism and bullying," Phillips said. "He then went on to ask me: 'Is your country really that prejudiced and outdated when it comes to race?'"
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Popularity In Britain Reportedly Plunges
While the Sussexes may be winning the PR battle, Express noted that their popularity has continued to drop in his home country. Pollster Matt Goodwin gathered the results of surveys on the royal family from three different companies, and they weren't favorable to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
"We've had polling from People Polling, JL Partners and YouGov. It all tells a consistent story. Their 'brand' is now toxic in Britain," he said.
"They've clearly decided to go all in on the US which is probably a good thing. I don't think a comeback here is viable."
A YouGov survey between Dec. 7 and 8 with 1,677 adult participants shared the same sentiment. The majority, 59 percent have a negative opinion of Prince Harry compared to 52 percent last month.
Markle's popularity also dipped from 60 percent to 64 percent of people having negative opinions of her.
