Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are not really big in Hollywood. They aren't as important as the Kardashians, Beyonce or Jennifer Lopez, according to a report.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Not Hollywood Royalties?
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their royal duties and settled in California. However, despite having a fairly good start in America, they reportedly have never attained royal status in Tinseltown.
TV presenter Nick Ede claimed to be friends with Markle for years. However, their communication stopped when she began dating Prince Harry.
Ede felt that the Sussexes may have underestimated how much they need to get on top of Tinseltown.
"I think it's quite interesting to have known her to now see what it's like in LA for her. I've got lots of friends who live there, who know what their reputation is like and it's changed a lot," Ede said, Express reported.
He continued:
"I think the thing is that you forget that in Hollywood royalty isn't somebody with a title. It's J.Lo, it's Sharon Stone, it's Beyonce, it's the Kardashians. That's their royalty."
And added:
"And also the Obamas or Clintons. If you've been in office, apart from Trump, then you're seen as being a top dog. I think they have underestimated that in many ways."
Ede speculated that the Sussexes "came in and thought [they would be] the number one people on the block," but "they're not really."
When it comes to the pecking order in Hollywood, Ede claimed that the Sussexes are down the line.
"They're kind of quite far down really in that pecking order. And I think that's been an issue with them, in that sense of stepping down."
Hollywood Celebrities Still Want To Be Associated With Meghan Markle, Prince Harry?
Some sources claimed that Hollywood personalities are distancing themselves from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for fear that they might be exposed after the royal couple dropped their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and his memoir Spare.
However, TalkTV's royal editor Sarah Hewson said the royal couple still has a lot of supporters in Tinseltown.
"It was thought that they had a big cohort of celebrities supporting around them," Hewson said while speaking on Sky News Australia (via Express).
Markle wasn't invited to Oprah Winfrey's 69th birthday, which featured several influential women, including Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba and more. But despite her absence, Hewson said they have celebrity pals in private.
"Whether this pair is [because they are] seen as too toxic, too negative to be associated with, in the public eye at least. Perhaps behind closed doors, celebrities are still waiting to associate themselves with them."
Hewson's comment was different from what royal expert Kinsey Schofield shared with Fox News Digital. According to the To Di For Daily podcast host:
"I live in Los Angeles and have spent years in PR. Word on the street is that Harry and Meghan aren't invited anywhere because all eyes would be on them, and it would distract from the cause or event."
