Marvel Studios has dropped a surprise for fans during D23 Expo. The first trailer for Secret Invasion has just been unveiled and it confirms that Nick Fury will be back on a major mission. In addition to that, the teaser offers our first glimpse at former Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke as a new Marvel Cinematic Universe character in action!
The Marvel's Secret Invasion trailer opens with Nick Fury coming back to Earth and meeting with Maria Hill who admits she is tired of trying to contact him when her messages go straight to voicemail. However, Fury says that his reason for coming back is "different."
So what is Nick Fury up to? We're not sure what's happening but he's meeting up with James "Rhodey" Rhodes to check on the latter's security detail and checking in with a mysterious old pal played by Olivia Colman. Fury also tells Emilia Clarke's character that this is his war and he's the last person standing between them and what they really want.
Who is Fury talking about? It may have something to do with Kingsley Ben-Adir's mystery character and the Skrulls that surround Talos when he tries to grab the lead villain. Needless to say, Secret Invasion is going to be a mind-boggling spy mystery that we can't wait to see next year.
Secret Invasion will bring back Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, and Don Cheadle as James "Rhodey" Rhodes. They will be joined by Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo, whose roles are still undisclosed.
The new MCU series will consist of six episodes and will premiere on Disney+ in early 2023.
