Secret Invasion is Marvel Studios' most mysterious project for Phase 4. In fact, we barely know anything about it aside from the ensemble cast which features Emilia Clarke and Samuel L. Jackson as the lead stars. Earlier this year, Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther star Martin Freeman was rumored to appear in the series. Now, in a recent interview, Freeman finally addressed his return as Everett Ross in Disney+'s upcoming Secret Invasion.
"Yeah – I think that's kosher information, isn't it?" Freeman admitted to Radio Times. "In order not to embarrass Samuel, I will say... I'm not gonna say he's got that totally wrong and he's thinking of Sam Rockwell," Freeman gagged. "So yes, I may very well be [appearing]."
Prior to this interview, Samuel L. Jackson seemingly confirmed that Freeman is indeed returning to the show. "How amazing is that? Martin Freeman. Come on. When I walked in the room and Olivia Colman was standing there, I was just like, [excited]," Jackson said in Samuel L. Jackson: In Conversation With Josh Horowitz event in New York City. "We just started laughing, and when we started to work, it was so glorious and such a ball. We were just kind of having a good time. She is so amazing and so effective in a scene."
Freeman's MCU journey will be more eventful in Phase 4 and is already confirmed to return in the highly-anticipated sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, in which he previously teased a 'very good' script.
Disney+'s Secret Invasion will be the MCU debut of Game of Thrones legend Emilia Clarke in a very mysterious role. Alongside Clarke, Oliva Colman is also confirmed to appear in the series, while Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle, and Samuel L. Jackson will reprise their Marvel roles.
Secret Invasion, unfortunately, encountered several delays mainly due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The upcoming Disney+ show started filming in September 2021 and reportedly wrapped up in late April 2022. Marvel Studios hasn't yet released any official release date window for the series but was included in their 2022 slate of Marvel films and TV shows, asserting that the show will premiere sometime this year.
