Marvel Leakers Face Legal Battle Against Disney For Spoiling MCU Films

Marvel Studios has been keeping the future of the MCU lowkey, especially given that they’re still in the middle of panning out the Marvel Phases. Kickstarting off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania this Marvel Phase 5, most MCU fans had already been exposed to some leaked spoilers ahead of its release.

As you may be well aware, the billion dollar franchise is quite sensitive when it comes to keeping spoilers off the public eye until they officially unveil their plans, leading them to reconstruct an anti-leaking policy almost recently this year. It’s no secret that Marvel Studios has been battling with leakers for quite some time, but leakers responsible for posting the full Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania script had gone too far for the studio.

According to TorrentFreak, Disney is currently seeking to identify suspects behind releasing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s script online via Marvel Studios Spoilers subreddit. However, given that Reddit protects the identities of its users, Marvel Studios filed two new cases last Friday.

The company issued a DMCA subpoena application in the United States District of California demanding Reddit on March 10 to identify the users involved in leaking the script for Ant-Man 3. The issue included requesting all information related to any potential users involved in posting the copyrighted content between January 15 and February 15.

Amidst Marvel Studios investigating leakers who spoiled the Ant-Man threequel, one of the biggest subreddits, r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, had officially shut down by setting their account to private on March 13, with a final post indicating that the subreddit had “grown so large” that Marvel Studios and even Disney are in the know of their operation (via CBR.com). As of writing, r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers is temporarily privatized. It is unclear as to when the subreddits will open up again to the public.

Marvel is taking extreme measures in dealing with spoiler leakers, despite the shortlived script leak. However, Captain America: New World Order star Anthony Mackie did note on how Marvel’s privacy policy had drastically changed to prevent further spoilers from their own employees, so it is all the more natural to keep non-employees out of their hair before they get their hands on more MCU future spoilers.

As for whether or not this measure would be proven effective, only time can tell.
