The shake-up in DC Studios has caused a huge stir online following the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 and potential recast of the characters when Henry Cavill just came back as Superman with an upcoming Man of Steel 2, the current status of the project has been reportedly revealed.
For years, Henry Cavill didn't wear the cape which made people worry whether he would be back as Superman and after quite some time, he finally came back in the post-credits scene of Black Adam. Along with this, a Man of Steel 2 has been revealed to be under development.
Everyone was cheering then because, finally, Henry Cavill will be back as Superman and a Man of Steel 2 is on the way but with the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3, various titles under DC Studio are now on limbo and needed clarification.
In a report from Deadline, a clarificatory update has been issued for the current status of Henry Cavill's return as Superman and his sequel, the Man of Steel 2. According to it, before Gunn and Safran assumed their roles as the heads of DC Studios, there's already a movement for Man of Steel 2.

The report said that Warner Bros executive Michael De Luca and Pamela Abby got a pitch for Man of Steel 2 from the producer of the first film, Charles Roven, and a writer, but the execs did not like it so they waited for Gunn and Safran to deal with the issue.
This means that there was never a go signal for Man of Steel 2, but that does not mean it is a closed door. Rather, the project remains to be open until DC Studios get a better pitch for the story, one that may fit into the larger plan that the studio has for the characters that will be involved.
That being said, Henry Cavill's current status as Superman goes the same -- he's still on limbo as well, but again, that, itself, is not conclusive of the possibility of Cavill's return as Superman in other projects.
