Malia Obama recently sparked rumors that she's dating record producer Dawit Eklund after they were photographed strolling the streets of New York today. The outing came on the heels of unconfirmed reports that Barack Obama and Michelle Obama's eldest daughter had already called it quits with her boyfriend, Rory Farquharson.

Page Six published photos of Malia Obama and Dawit Eklund during their recent outing, but there was no indication that they are an item. After all, the two did not engage in any public displays of affection. They simply chatted and laughed together.
According to the publication, Malia and Eklund were more touchy-feely toward each other during their August outing. However, they have not confirmed the real status of their relationship.

Malia Obama Doesn't Want To Introduce Dawit Eklund To Barack Obama And Michelle Obama
But National Enquirer previously claimed that the two are indeed dating. And Malia allegedly refused to introduce Eklund to her parents because Barack and Michelle have the tendency to meddle in her relationships.
"Malia is very independent and strong-willed, just like her folks. She's presented this new romance as a wonderful new chapter in her life and doesn't think it deserves to be questioned or justified," an unnamed source said (via IBTimes UK).
The source also claimed that Malia and Eklund just started dating recently, so the former couldn't contain her excitement now that she could call the latter her boyfriend.
"She hasn't been seeing him for long, but she's very excited about him and has been calling him her boyfriend. As serious as she already seems, she's refused to bring him home to meet her parents, and that's driving her poor dad crazy," the source said.
But when the time comes that Malia decides to introduce Eklund to her parents, there wouldn't be any issue because the 33-year-old is also a Democrat.
"Dawit is a card-carrying Democrat, which Barack appreciates, but there's still a whole lot more he'd like to know about his guy who's seeing his daughter. If it were up to Barack, he'd have Dawit over and grill him one-on-one about what his intentions are. But Malia has put her foot down. She gets it that her dad is protective but finds it tiresome to be babied when she's a grown adult who's finally enjoying some independence and living life on her own terms. Barack's itching to meddle any chance he gets, but Michelle's telling him to back off and be supportive," the source said.

Barack Obama And Michelle Obama Are Supportive Of Their Children's Relationships
However, the magazine's claims have not been proven to be accurate. For one, there's no confirmation that Malia and Eklund are really dating. And there's also no confirmation that she and Farquharson have already ended their years-long relationship.
Barack and Michelle are also very supportive of their daughters' relationships. The ex-POTUS previously revealed that Farquharson was quarantined with their family at the start of the pandemic. He also called Malia's boyfriend a wonderful young man and a good kid.
"He's British, wonderful young man, and he was sort of stuck because there was a whole visa thing and he had a job set up. So, we took him in and I didn't want to like him, but he's a good kid," Barack said (via TODAY).
This proves that he is a supportive and doting dad to his children.
