Hiroto Shinohara continues to lie and cheat in his games to stay on Academy Island. With the help of Shirayuki and Rina, Hiroto’s chances of losing the games will be zero percent! But who will be Hiroto’s next challenger in Liar Liar Episode 4?

Liar Liar (not to be confused with Liar x Liar) is a psychological, comedy, romance, and ecchi anime. It is based on Haruki Kuo’s light novel of the same name, with illustrations by Konomi.

Here's What Happened Before Liar Liar Episode 4

The title of Liar Liar Episode 4 is A Dead Heat and Determination. The episode begins with the arrival of Kugisaki Seiran, a five-star student who is also the leader of the self-made Holy Knight Brigade.

Kugisaki holds a grudge against Hiroto and challenges him to a game called "Self-Made 27 Form Game". It is a card game divided into two phases: the collection phase and the reveal phase.

Basically, Hiroto and Kugisaki will have to collect cards from different locations; the more cards they have, the better.

During the second phase, Kugisaki and Hiroto will have their cards revealed, and whoever has the highest number on their card during the face-off will win a point.

Hiroto accepted Kugisaki’s game application full of confidence in Shirayuki’s company, Rina’s (Sarasa’s stand-in) star abilities, and in himself. And whoever loses the game will vow to never again challenge the Empress.

The following day, Hiroto and Rina set up a strategy meeting. In the previous episodes, Hiroto and Rina agreed to form an alliance to protect both of their secrets and realize their goals on Academy Island.

Shirayuki welcomes Rina to Hiroto’s dorm. As it turns out, Shirayuki knows about Rina because she served the Saionji Family back in the day.

She even considers Rina her best friend, but due to certain circumstances, they aren’t able to bond again, much to Hiroto’s surprise.

The three of them start discussing their strategy against Kugisaki. Unfortunately, Shirayuki confirms that Hiroto only has a 1% chance of winning the card game, mainly because of his current star abilities.

But Shirayuki assures Hiroto that her company will do anything to support him and win the game.

Rina also agreed to help Hiroto, even though she can only temporarily manipulate the location display of the cards in Kugisaki’s terminal.

The day of the game arrives, and Kugisaki is more than determined to crush Hiroto. He even called Hiroto to mock him. He believes that Hiroto can only collect two cards compared to his 18 cards.

If this happens, Hiroto will definitely lose. As the game intensified, Kugisaki’s plan caught Hiroto and Shirayuki by surprise.

By the time Hiroto acquires his second card and gets injured in the process, Kugisaki has already completed his 18 cards.

After Hiroto got injured, Rina appeared with the intention of bringing him to the hospital.

However, Hiroto doesn’t want to give up, noting how their time on Academy Island will not be cut short.

Because of this, Rina decides to reveal that the real Sarasa is safe on the mainland. She was not kidnapped at all!

Rina shares that she helped Sarasa sneak onto the mainland, where she could accomplish her dream of having a normal life away from the powerful Saionji family.

Thankfully, Hiroto understood Rina’s actions. That’s when Shirayuki arrives to check on what's happening between them.

She thought that Hiroto would have no chance to win the game against Kugisaki after what happened, but the latter came up with a plan to turn the tables around.

In the stadium, Kugisaki thinks that Hiroto has no chance of winning, given the difference in the number of their cards. Hiroto gives up and discards one of his cards.

As a result, Kugisaki decides to discard all of his cards, knowing full well that he’ll be declared the winner.

Things take a sudden turn when Hiroto reveals his trump card: Kagaya’s hacking techniques and the Rule Breaker ability.

They changed the rules in favor of Hiroto. In the end, Kugisaki lost all of his cards, while Hiroto still had one in his hand, ultimately winning the game.

Before the episode ends, Hiroto loafs around the hospital’s roof. Rina approaches Hiroto to ask him what he meant when he said "My type" in the middle of the game.

But Hiroto didn’t hear Rina’s question, for he was already on the phone, talking to Shirayuki.
