With next season on the horizon, more anime premiering in Summer 23 are being revealed. The latest is Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero, an upcoming fantasy anime that recently revealed its July release date.
Despite the title, Level 1 Demon Lord is not an isekai, but it’s a reverse isekai of sorts that fans of shows like The Devil is a Part-Timer should watch out for.
Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero is Surprisingly Not an Isekai
When an anime title has a demon lord and a hero in it, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s an isekai anime. After all, there are tons of isekai titles being released every season.
Though Level 1 Demon Lord is a bit different as it features a demon lord and the hero that defeated them living in our world.
In the series, a demon lord of a certain world was defeated by the hero Max. The demon lord then went into a ten-year slumber and awoken as a chibi version of his previous form.
Undeterred, the demon lord visits Max, though the hero is now a slob living in a dirty one-room apartment. Thus, the demon lord moves in with Max so that he can regain his past glory.
In many ways, this show’s story is similar to The Devil is a Part-Timer which also sees another demon lord and the hero that vanquished him coexist in modern Japan.

Level 1 Demon Lord Anime’s Stacked Cast, Release Date
This upcoming anime features an impressive voice cast as the hero Max is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura (Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen) while the demon lord is voiced by Naomi Oozora (Hana Uzaki in Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out).
Joining them are other well-known VAs, including Yoko Hikasa (Emi Yusa in The Devil is a Part-Timer), Ami Koshimizu (Ryuko Matoi in Kill la Kill), Hiro Shimono (Zenitsu in Demon Slayer), and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Kirito in Sword Art Online).
Meanwhile, the animation of the series is handled by SILVER LINK., the studio behind works such as The Misfit of Demon King Academy and Masamune-kun no Revenge.
Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero will premiere in July 2023, likely during the first or the second week of that month. The anime will be streamed on HIDIVE in the US.
