The isekai genre involves a character, often an ordinary human being, getting transported to another world that in most cases is a mystical land with magic.

On the other hand, reverse isekai is completely opposite of it. A reverse isekai deals with the main protagonist getting transported from a fantasy world to Earth.

After arriving, the main character needs to find a way to lead a normal life while attempting to befriend earthlings.

In some cases, the protagonist comes to planet Earth to fulfill a mission.

  1. The Devil Is a Part-Timer!

Starting off the list is The Devil Is a Part-Timer!, which is based on the light novel of the same name written by Satoshi Wagahara and illustrated by 029.

The story follows the Devil King Satan getting closer to conquering the world in another dimension.

Unfortunately, Hero Emilia appears and forces him to move to another world – modern-day Tokyo.

Upon arriving in this peaceful and modern era, he realizes he cannot use his powers.

Moreover, he must get a part-time job at a local burger joint named MgRonald’s to survive.

This reverse isekai anime based on the workplace has a fun premise and gives off a light slice-of-life vibe. The anime is funny and the characters are instantly likable.

  2. Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World

This ONA shows that food can be a powerful medium to bring together two different worlds.

Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World is based on a bar called Nobu in Kyoto, Japan. The bar is famous for serving tasty dishes and drinks to its customers.

However, Nobu also opens to Aitheria, a city in another world. After the residents of Aitheria learn about the delicious dishes being served at Nobu, the citizens start arriving at the bar.

The food showcased in this anime looks mouthwatering and no wonder, the otherworldly beings line up to eat the exquisite dishes at Nobu.

  3. Uncle From Another World

This reverse isekai anime came out in July 2022 on Netflix, and its unique comedy was immensely refreshing in the isekai genre.

After a tragic accident, Takafumi’s uncle, Yousuke Ojisan Shibazaki, slipped into a coma for 17 years.

After 17 years, he regains consciousness and Takafumi realizes that Ojisan has started loving video games. Moreover, he claims that he was transported to another world as a hero.

Takafumi rejects his claims but soon finds out that his uncle has some sort of magical powers.

Meanwhile, Ojisan discovers modern-day gadgets but is devasted to learn about the result of the 90s console battle.

Uncle From Another World is a pleasure to watch because of Ojisan’s comedic timing and his incredible video game knowledge.

Also, the strong plot of the anime makes it a must-watch reverse isekai.

  4. Sugar Sugar Rune

Chocolat and Vanilla are young witches who are racing to become the next Queen. They are close friends but also share a great rivalry.

In this reverse isekai, they are sent by the Queen to Earth to collect as many human hearts as they can.

Whoever collects the most hearts will become the next Queen of the witching world.

The plot may appear straightforward, but the protagonists pace the story with a fresh appeal, which is why this might be one of our favorite anime with magical girls.

You definitely shouldn't sleep on this beautiful shoujo series!

  5. Restaurant to Another World

Pretty much on the same line as Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World, this anime revolves around Western Cuisine Cat Restaurant, which is in the shopping district around an office area.

The restaurant is popular among office goers but there is a secret clientele base of Western Cuisine Cat Restaurant.

Every Saturday when the shop shuts down, the restaurant is preparing to serve a few special patrons. And these special customers are from another world.

The series is a wholesome watch in every sense and the beautiful shots of the food are just the icing on the cake.

We also love the character designs that are more on the realistic side.

  6. Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero

The protagonist of this anime is Akatsuki, known as the Rogue Hero in the magical world of Arezard.

At the defeated Demon King’s request, Akatsuki brings his daughter with him.

After returning with her to Earth, Akatsuki and the girl join Babel, an academy that specializes in training earthlings who came from the other world.

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero is incredibly high on showing skin and fanservice.

However, the anime also has comedic elements with mild romance.

  7. Gabriel DropOut

Gabriel White graduates with top grades at angel school. She is later selected to attend a school on Earth and allowed to mingle with humans.

Gabriel DropOut is a funny anime with reverse isekai elements. Moreover, the characters are charming and super cute.

Overall, this is a lighthearted anime with an adorable protagonist that you will surely enjoy watching!

  8. Re:Creators

A high schooler named Sota loves the anime, Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier. One day, he ends up inside the show itself.

Soon, the duo learns that it was not a one-off case, as several characters from different anime, manga, and video games start arriving.

Turns out a mysterious girl named Military Uniform Princess is behind all this.

Some of the characters like to meet with their creators while others have ulterior motives.

Re:Creators has a solid premise that plays beautifully on the otaku culture and parallel universe.

It is quite different from a traditional isekai or even a reverse isekai title.

  9. Hinamatsuri

As a young yakuza member meets a young girl from another world, Hinamatsuri brings the criminal world and the fantasy world closer to each other.

Yoshifumi Nitta, a member of the yakuza, is taken aback when a blue-haired girl named Hina appears before him.

He learns that she is blessed with unimaginable powers. However, she looks like an uncontrollable creature who can hurt others.

Yoshifumi is left with no choice but to become her caretaker. As the series progresses, Yoshifumi realizes that Hina is a big asset in the yakuza business.

Hinamatsuri is a comedic gem with terrific writing and great characters, making it a delightful slice-of-life anime.

  10. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid

Featuring cute dragons from another world transforming into even more adorable girls, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is full of heart with a great storyline.

Miss Kobayashi is a regular corporate employee who leads a boring life in her apartment. One day, she ends up saving a female dragon.

The dragon named Tohru can become an adorable girl in order to live among humans.

Meanwhile, Tohru is willing to do anything for Kobayashi because she saved her life.

Gate is an action and fantasy anime that falls in the reverse isekai genre. The anime showcases a gate appearing in the Ginza district of Tokyo.

From this mysterious gate, monsters, beasts, fantastical beings, and warriors from medieval Europe start pouring out. To make things complicated, they start killing innocent citizens of Tokyo.

The government tasks a group of soldiers from the Japanese Self-Defense Forces to infiltrate this other world. An otaku soldier named Yoji is leading the unit.

His group finds a dragon attacking a village beyond the gate. An elf girl who survives the dragon’s attack joins Yoji’s group as they travel across this other world.

Gate is an action-packed anime with otherworldly creatures and modern military weapons. It is a decent amalgamation of isekai and otaku culture.

  12. Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok

The Norse god of mischief named Loki is exiled to Earth for cracking a bad joke. Apart from being exiled, he is also forced to transform into a human child.

The only way he can return to the court of gods is by collecting the evil aura that consumes human hearts. In order to find evil, Loki starts a detective agency.

Meanwhile, several other Norse gods start appearing on Earth and they want to kill Loki for unknown reasons.
