Kang the Conqueror Was Never Supposed To Be The Centric Marvel Villain

Amid the controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors, Marvel Studios has still yet to release their official statement on whether they intend to keep the actor as Kang the Conqueror or not.

As many reports begin to circulate more about Majors’ domestic abuse case, Loki Season 2 is still releasing this year, which could still potentially include his MCU character.

However, the fact that Loki Season 2 has been moved to October instead of its initial release date of early 2023, a previous report claimed this could indicate Marvel is on its way to replacing said actor.

Now, according to Joanna Robinson, the author of the upcoming book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, while speaking on The Ringer’s The Big Picture, Kang the Conqueror was never meant to be the central villain of Marvel Phase 5.

“I was told by someone who works for Marvel, it was not the plan to make Kang the center of everything until they saw the dailies from [Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania] and after his performance in Loki, which was so strong,” The author said.

She also added: “They were like, ‘This is it. This is our way forward. We’ve lost our varsity hero team, but let’s set up around this guy Kang and this performer that so many people are reacting to.'

It is worth mentioning that Marvel Studios’ VP of Production and Development Stephen Broussard has initially spoken on behalf of the company in regards to how they resolve conflicts if they ever encounter such difficulty with a particular actor.

Mind you, this was spoken before Jonathan Majors had been exposed.

Broussard said: “I don’t think [Kang the Conqueror] is going to appear in every film, as you say. Obviously, he probably won’t. We are in the Multiverse Saga. And that entails all sorts of things, right?”

Keeping all three of these in mind, it is likelier now more than ever to replace Kang the Conqueror. If not the actor, then perhaps the central villain?

Either way, considering the existence of the multiverse ‘entails all sorts of things’, as well as the change of circumstances, Marvel should get a move on how they swiftly execute a new plan before things get out of hand.

They’re going to need all the help they can get, after all, to keep the MCU alive and moving forward.
