Kaiju No. 8 Manga Set for Month-Long Hiatus Following Anime Announcement

The good news is, Kaiju No. 8 is getting an anime adaptation. The not-so-good news? Naoya Matsumoto's manga will be taking a month-long hiatus in preparation for upcoming developments.

Naoya Matsumoto shared a statement regarding the hiatus at the end of Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 68 (via Twitter). The mangaka explains that the series will be taking a break to prepare for developments on the manga's upcoming story arcs.

"We will be taking a break from updating in order to prepare for new developments. The next publication date is scheduled for 9/2. I am sorry to everyone looking forward to it. Thank you for your continued support of Kaiju No. 8," Matsumoto wrote.

The update comes almost immediately after the Kaiju No. 8 anime announcement. Although it was initially believed that the hiatus is connected to the adaptation, it has since been clarified that the manga is getting ready for a new major story arc next month.

Not surprisingly, fans didn't mind too much about the hiatus in hopes that it would give Naoya Matsumoto some time to rest and prepare for the manga's next chapter. However, some also aired their concerns that it would mean that Kaiju No. 8 is nearing its end.

We're hoping that Kaiju No. 8 will still have more chapters in the future. In the meantime, people are already excited about the anime adaptation.

Kaiju No. 8 follows childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro both vowed to become members of the Defense Force after their town was destroyed by kaiju. While Mina grows up to become the commander of the Defense Force's Third Unit, Kafka gains the ability to turn into a monster after a small kaiju flies into his mouth. As "Kaiju No. 8", Kafka becomes the first monster to escape the Defense Force.

The Kaiju No. 8 manga will resume with Chapter 69 on September 2, 2022.
