Justin Bieber recently celebrated his 29th birthday in the company of his wife, Hailey Baldwin, and some of their closest friends. But what was supposed to be a fun occasion turned into a huge controversy after fans found out what Bieber gave his pals as a souvenir.
Justin Bieber's Birthday Giveaway Had Cryptic Message Etched On It?
According to Us Weekly, Justin Bieber gave those that attended his birthday party a silver lighter etched with a cryptic statement.
"I'm so thankful that I didn't end up with what I thought I wanted," the statement read.
After one of Bieber's friends posted the lighter on his social media account, several fans of the singer started theorizing what the statement meant.

Did Justin Bieber Throw Shade At His Ex-Girlfriend Selena Gomez?
Some of them became convinced that Bieber is still hung up on his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, while others thought that the singer must have offended his wife by suggesting that Baldwin was just his second choice.
Other fans also claimed that the statement on the lighter might not have had a deeper meaning, contrary to what some people are saying.
"Can't believe people are interpreting this negatively. Justin is saying he's grateful for the life he has as is," one fan tweeted.
"Or he could be talking about something else or his mental health. It's been 10 years. Let it go," another fan wrote.
Are Selena Gomez And Hailey Baldwin Feuding With Each Other?
Gomez and Baldwin previously proved that girl power came first over any man. The two publicly showed their support for each other after fans kept pitting them against one another.
But it seems things changed in February after Gomez was dragged into a controversy involving Kylie Jenner. Even if the two A-listers had already hashed things out, Gomez struggled to let go of a video of Baldwin laughing at Taylor Swift.
"So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game," Gomez said at the time.
Following the controversy from the past couple of weeks, Gomez also pleaded with her millions of followers on social media to be kinder to one another.
"Thank you and love you all so much. I'm deeply grateful for each and every one of you humans. You make me unbelievably happy. Please, please be kinder and consider others' mental health. My heart has been heavy, and I only want good for everyone. All my love," she said in her makeup tutorial video (via People).
As of writing, Bieber and Baldwin have not directly addressed the issue.
