Justice League Will Still Feature the Same Cool Alfred as BvS

If there had to be a sleeper fan-favorite character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it would have to be Jeremy Irons' Alfred Pennyworth.

While he was obviously a far different butler to Bruce than other roles that have preceded him, there's an aura about Irons' portrayal of the role that makes him stand out. He doesn't give off the elderly, meek yet stern aura like Michael Caine's portrayal in Christopher Nolan's trilogy. He's also different from Gotham's Sean Pertwee in so many ways despite the heavy English accent.

No, Irons' Alfred is the stern but calm, and oftentimes witty butler who can hold his ground. And in an interview with ComingSoon, Irons revealed that fans will still be seeing this same quality of the character for Justice League.

"Alfred is a sticker for staying the same. He tries to modulate everybody else. In a very gentle, English way he tries to deal with these people who can do all these extraordinary things in a very calm way, a very grounded way. He does not modulate at all. He sometimes lets Bruce Wayne out a bit on the lead, but he's still attached."

I don't mind Alfred still being the same Alfred in the JL movie. I already loved him in BvS, which is saying a lot and I know fans do agree with that. His portrayal was a refreshing one, because he's the kind of butler who can actually whip Bruce into shape without losing the cool and collected Englishman persona.

And since we'll also be seeing him encounter the other Justice League members, I'm actually looking forward to how he will address the different meta-humans—a hot goddess, an awkward Speedster, a potentially emotionally damaged cyborg, and a grunting badass king of the sea.

Justice League will be under Zack Snyder's direction, and it's set to premiere in theaters on Nov. 10, 2017.
