Jujutsu Kaisen Star Joins Disney+ Japan's Dragons of Wonderhatch


Kenjiro Tsuda has landed another major project. The Jujutsu Kaisen star has just been confirmed to join the cast of Disney+ Japan's upcoming fantasy project Dragons of Wonderhatch, combining anime with live-action footage.

Comic Natalie reports that Kenjiro Tsuda and Shunsuke Takeuchi are joining the voice cast of Dragons of Wonderhatch. Tsuda, who recently portrayed Kishibe in Chainsaw Man, will provide the voice of Gyro, a feared dragon rider that has the world of Upananta in his grip. Takeuchi has been cast to play Gafin, an adorable dragon who serves as the lead character Tyme's companion on his adventures.

In addition to confirming Kenjiro Tsuda and Shunsuke Takeuchi's roles, the character reference sheets for Tyme and Akuta have been revealed. Tyme, a boy from a world filled with dragons, will be played in anime and live-action by Daiken Okudaira. Mackenyu Arata, who debuts as Roronoa Zoro in Netflix's One Piece series, will provide the voice and portray the heroic dragonrider Akuta.

Dragons of Wonderhatch will follow Nagi, a teenager who meets Tyme, a boy from another world where dragonriders protect humanity. The live-action cast currently includes Sena Nakajima as Nagi, Daiken Okudaira as Tyme, Yoshito Emmanuelle as Nagi's friend Son, and Mackenyu Arata as Aruta.

The project will be a hybrid weaving animation with live-action footage and will be helmed by Tokyo Ghoul director Kentaro Hagiwara while One Piece: Stampede's Takashi Ootsuka will serve as animation director. The Promised Neverland mangaka Posuka Demizu serves as the original character designer and Production I.G will be in charge of animation production.

Dragons of Wonderhatch is currently in production and has not yet been given an official release date. However, the ambitious new project is already expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in Winter 2023. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Kenjiro Tsuda is set to return as Kento Nanami in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 which premieres later this year.
