As the year is about to end, the best-selling manga series in Japan have been announced. Based on the data, Jujutsu Kaisen is the best-selling manga of 2022 in Japan, with One Piece getting 4th place.
The top-selling manga titles of the year were announced by Oricon. There, details about their specific estimated sales numbers were shared.
The data also revealed that there is a large gap between the top 4 and the rest of the top 10.
Jujutsu Kaisen Tops Manga Best-Selling List
It might come as a surprise to some, but Jujutsu Kaisen is the best-selling manga of 2022.
From November 22, 2021, to November 20, 2022, the series sold an estimated 12.2 million copies.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga series by Gege Akutami that’s serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
The series began in March 2018, and it has since become one of Shueisha’s biggest modern hits.
While it was already a success early into its run, the series got a boost in popularity thanks to the anime adaptation by MAPPA that premiered in October 2020.
In second place is Tokyo Revengers, the recently concluded manga series by Ken Wakui that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine.
Based on Oricon’s data, the manga sold over 11 million copies in the past year.
Following Tokyo Revengers in the list is Spy x Family, the hit manga series by Tatsuya Endo that began in March 2019. In 2022, the manga sold 10.6 million copies in Japan.
While already popular before, the new anime series became a massive hit in Spring 2022, making it one of the most-streamed shows of the year.
This might be a major factor in driving more manga sales for the series.

One Piece Comes in at 4th Place for Manga Sales
Right behind Spy x Family is Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece which sold 10.3 million copies in Japan over the past year.
While it may not be the top-selling manga of the year, One Piece is still the world’s best-selling manga ever as its lifetime circulation number stands at over 500 million.
It was also noted by @newworldartur that One Piece is the top-selling manga title of the year in Japan counting only the sales of new manga volumes.
Though this statistic is skewed towards the series’ favor as it has one more volume compared to Jujutsu Kaisen.
What’s interesting though is that the sales numbers of the four best-selling manga in Japan in 2022 are close together.
For comparison, the manga at the fifth spot is My Hero Academia with a total of 5.3 million copies sold.
