Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 220 English Translation Error Messes Up Ieri's Line

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 220 was a huge one for the manga considering that it strongly suggested the return of Satoru Gojo. However, readers were also quick to notice a major fumble as Shoko Ieri's message to Gojo had a strange English translation.

In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 220, the remaining players of the Culling Game were downcast as Kenjaku added two new rules. At this point, everyone was anticipating Gojo finally being unsealed from the Prison Realm. One character who had a lot to say (or think) about the matter was Shoko Ieri who sent a mental message to her friend.

One part of Ieri's message was a response to Gojo claiming that he has been doing things on his own. Ieri points out that there was no chance on Earth that she was in love with either Gojo or Suguru Geto but she was always there for them.

Interestingly, VIZ Media's English translation of the line isn't quite the same. Instead, it reads, "I was in love with one of you. That's something that would've never happened even if the world was turned upside down."

It's a confusing message at this point and fans are pointing out that the translation was made a little too literal.

For now, VIZ Media has not yet addressed the confusing translation. In the meantime, people are already looking forward to Gojo's possible return in the manga.

In the meantime, both Shoko Ieri and Satoru Gojo (and Suguru Geto) are set to play major roles in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. The second season will adapt the manga's Gojo's Past Arc but is referred to as Hidden Inventory/Premature Death Arc in the anime. It is set in the past when Ieri, Gojo, and Geto are still students at Tokyo Jujutsu High School.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is set to premiere on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 11:56 pm JST.
