This anime film’s release on Crunchyroll marks its streaming premiere outside Japan, meaning fans who missed its initial theatrical run can finally watch this critically acclaimed Jujutsu Kaisen movie online.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is an anime film by MAPPA that’s based on the single-volume manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami.
The film serves as a prequel to the Jujutsu Kaisen TV anime that was released in 2020 as its story is set one year before the series.
The manga it is based on was originally entitled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School and was originally serialized in Jump GIGA.
After the release of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, this initial series was retitled Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
Its story follows Yuta Okkotsu, a 16-year-old high school student that’s haunted by a cursed spirit borne out of his childhood friend Rika Orimoto, who died in an accident six years before the film’s events.
This cursed spirit acts in defense of Yuta, and it violently attacks those who bully him.
Soon, Satoru Gojo meets Yuta and invites him to join the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School so that he can learn to control Rika.
In the film’s events, Yuta meets classmates Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, and Panda, all of whom are first-year students in the movie’s time.
Aside from showing these fan-favorite characters, the movie also features the villain Suguru Geto.

The movie was a big hit both critically and commercially, gaining a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 46 reviews.

In Japan, it is also the 10th highest-earning film at the domestic box office.
As a prequel to the anime, viewers don’t need to be familiar with the TV anime to understand its story, making it a good entry point into Akutami’s series.
The full Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie is streaming now on Crunchyroll in select countries including the US, UK, and other regions. Though it is not yet available to stream in all countries worldwide.
