John Wick: Lance Reddick's Reported Cause of Death Debunked by Family Attorney

Lance Reddick, who played the Continental hotel manager, Charon, in the John Wick franchise, was declared dead on March 17th this year. The 60-year-old actor was found dead in his Los Angeles home a week before the premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4.

Initial reports stated that his death was linked to a heart disease, however, the attorney representing his family claims the autopsy is inconsistent with Reddick’s physical health and fitness.

“To my knowledge, no medical examination of Lance [Reddick] during his lifetime ever indicated such conditions,” Reddick’s family attorney, James Hornstein, told Entertainment Weekly, in which the lawyer described Reddick’s lifestyle including daily workouts in his home gym, “extensive cardio work”, and following a strict diet.

Hornstein added that Reddick even had “the availability of gym facilities” as “contractual requirement” for his projects.

“The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle,” Hornstein added, “On behalf of [Lance’s wife] Stephanie Reddick, the death certificate information is not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.”

TMZ was the first to report on Reddick obtaining a death certificate listing upon his immediate cause of death, which was listed as “ischemic heart disease” as well as “atherosclerotic coronary artery disease”.

Reddick was promoting John Wick: Chapter 4 at the time of his death. The actor had played as the Continental hotel manager in all four John Wick films, a character opposite of Keanu Reeves’ titular character. As John Wick: Chapter 4 pays tribute to Reddick’s passing, the family also requested donations to be made in his honor to momcares.org in Reddick’s hometown of Baltimore.

Lance Reddick was also known for his other roles on HBO’s prison drama Oz, and even went on to star in the acclaimed crime drama The Wire. While the John Wick prequel TV series, The Continental, is also expected to have Charon’s appearance, the series will instead be introducing us to a younger Charon, to be played by Ayomide Adegun.

You can now watch John Wick: Chapter 4 in cinemas worldwide. Check out more details about the film here.
