John Wick Director Refuses To Make Chapter 5 For Mere Cash Grabs

Given the immense success the John Wick: Chapter 4 faced, director Chad Stahelski has yet to put a finger on a potential Chapter 5 in the works.

While Lionsgate has been pretty open in pushing for a 5th installment of the Keanu Reeves-led series, Stahelski previously admitted he’s interested but not as invested as the company is.

“Look, I mean this in a good way, it’s a business.” Stahelski said in a recent interview with The Direct.

The franchise director added: “When you have something successful, yeah, of course, you want to keep doing it. But it’s very easy to be repetitive. The trick is how do you put your authorship into something that’s obviously been done three times before?”

In a previous interview, the reason behind Stahelski’s hesitancy on making Chapter 5 happen was ensuring its quality doesn’t decline once it releases theatrically.

He emulates in the interview how grateful he is to have the opportunity in his hands, still, to lead the franchise.

“Yes, I wouldn’t mind doing it. We just tried to knock it out of the park.” Stahelski continued, “We feel we put everything we had into John Wick [Chapter 4], and we feel we completed the cycle.”

“So we feel like, ‘You know, that was a great way to wrap up the previous three films and the fourth and deliver something satisfying and fun.’”

Now, in terms of John Wick: Chapter 5 happening anytime soon? Well, you might wanna hold your horses on that one.

“Right now, if you put a gun to my head, you might as well shoot me. Because I’m kind of fried.” Stahelski admitted.

He added: “If I wake up tomorrow and there’s an idea to entertain the audience that we feel is really gonna deliver and not be just a cash grab — yeah, I’d research it and go down that road.”

For now, the John Wick director is clear on his current decision: “I just, I don’t have that today.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 will reportedly be available on digital platforms on May 23.
