John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski has already spoken on his sentiments in creating a John Wick 5 amid John Wick: Chapter 4 just recently releasing in theaters, however, given Lionsgate’s new statement on seeking a fifth installment, Stahelski once again argues his case on not creating another.
“Oh God, to be honest with you, I don’t know. And I think… yeah, not to cause any weird clickbait or anything like that, the studio first came to us and go, ‘Look, we would like to explore the option of doing [John Wick 4] and [John Wick 5] together.’ And the dauntingness of that at first is a little intimidating, and a little bit like, ‘Well, what were you thinking?’” Stahelski said in a recent interview with Screen Rant.
Again, this isn’t the first time the franchise director had blatantly rejected the idea of creating a John Wick: Chapter 5. While he admits flattery in being praised to get another shot in the same franchise, Stahelski has no idea on what or how John Wick 5 would look like, as of writing.
“Again, super grateful for that opportunity, and if it does come to fruition sometime in the future, I don’t know what John Wick 5 is right now. I may have thoughts, we have ideas, fragments of stuff,” Stahelski added, “But I think I need a little time to breathe and see how this one does… All I see when I watch are my mistakes, and shortcomings and like, ‘Ah, could have, would have, should have.’”

Previously, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Joe Drake suggested for a John Wick: Chapter 5 to happen: “There’s a will and there’s an openness. And you could certainly interpret that ending in different ways.” Drake added, “We’re all going to take a tiny rest here and then scratch at ideas about whether there’s a credible way to get into five. But there’s no guarantee.”
It is worth noting that even the president is unsure, and seems highly dependent on Stahelski’s decision. Whether or not John Wick 5 IS in development, well, nothing has been confirmed yet. But we’ll make sure to keep an eye out on any updates on this one.
