Lionsgate Urges John Wick 5 To Happen Despite Chapter 4 Unpromising Ending

John Wick: Chapter 4 was widely expected to be the final installment of Keanu Reeves’ long-running franchise, especially given the big shocker of an ending overseeing the seemingly dead John Wick, who took one bullet too many, on Sacré-Cœeur as the sun rose.

While Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski have been open about taking a break from the franchise, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Joe Drake suggested that they are pushing for a John Wick 5 to happen.

“There’s a will and there’s an openness. And you could certainly interpret that ending in different ways.” Drake suggested in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “We’re all going to take a tiny rest here and then scratch at ideas about whether there’s a credible way to get into five. But there’s no guarantee.”

Previously, though, John Wick director Chad Stahelski weighed in on why he refuses to work on a John Wick 5, indicating that as a creator, he would often take a break in between films, seeing that he is not remotely interested in doing a movie back-to-back, “I [would] have no time to be influenced by life and bring life back in [John Wick], so I just thought it was kind of a cheat.”

However, Stahelski’s statement on a John Wick 5 isn’t at all far-fetched from Lionsgate’s sentiments on making the next installment: “We’re proud of what we’ve done, flattered [that] people want to see more, and we want to continue that and will be there to help out. What Lionsgate decides to do with the properties is up to them.”

Considering the fact that John Wick 4 has just recently been released and yet is already on track to become the best box office record for the franchise, a John Wick 5 wouldn’t be far-fetched. Not to mention, even the producer is hoping for a fifth installment.
