Jim Carrey Announces Retirement, Sonic 2 Set to be Final Acting Job

There is little doubt that Jim Carrey is a true Hollywood legend whose career has spanned several decades. However, it looks like the Ace Ventura: Pet Detective star is ready to leave that all behind. Carrey has just admitted that he is ready to retire and that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 could be his final acting job!

It's no secret that Jim Carrey has been staying out of the limelight for some time now which is why people were delighted when it was confirmed he would play Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. However, it looks like Eggman might not be back for a third film. In an interview with Access Hollywood (via Variety), Carrey stated that he is already considering his retirement.

"Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious. It depends," Carrey said. He then pointed out that there is still a chance he could come back for another role but it would have to be something truly amazing.

"If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break," Carrey stated.

But why turn his back on Hollywood now? The Batman Forever actor pointed out that he has grown accostomed to staying out of the limelight.

"I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough," Carrey said.

It might be disappointing for fans who enjoyed Carrey's comedic and serious performances in the past. Still, we can see him as Robotnik later this month.

Jim Carrey returns in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 which hits theaters on April 8, 2022.
