Jared Leto Wants Suicide Squad Ayer Cut Released

In light of recent events in the industry, visions of the directors are finally getting the chance to be released to the public. Probably the most popular would be the Snyder Cut of Justice League wherein Zack Snyder got the opportunity to deliver his original plan for the movie. As for Suicide Squad, it is still in limbo for the Ayer Cut but a star of the movie, Jared Leto, wants it to be released.

In a chat with Variety, when asked about the Ayer Cut, this is what Jared Leto, who played Joker, has to say, "Absolutely. Why not? Why wouldn't they? That's what streaming's for, right?"

This vision of Ayer features more of Joker, including his fight in the subway, and a clear tone to Joker’s relationship with Harley Quinn which could have fit better for the introduction of Birds of Prey. His version also includes a larger arc for Katana and a could-have-been love triangle between Joker, Harley, and Deadshot. Ayer said that his film has never seen the light of day as it got the “Edward Scissorhands treatment.”

In an open letter, David Ayer wrote, "I put my life into Suicide Squad. I made something amazing. My cut is intricate and emotional journey with some bad people who are shit on and discarded (a theme that resonates in my soul). The studio cut is not my movie.”

Ayer added, “Read that again. And my cut is not the 10-week director's cut – it's a fully mature edit by Lee Smith standing on the incredible work by John Gilroy. It's all Steven Price's brilliant score, with not a single radio song in the whole thing. It has traditional character arcs, amazing performances, a solid third-act resolution. A handful of people have seen it."

While Snyder’s version was released in March 2021 after years of the fans calling for it, the Ayer cut remains in question. These two films have the same scenario but their backstories are quite different. You see, Snyder’s version was totally kept at bay as he left mid-production and the direction of the movie was given to Joss Whedon.

As for the Ayer Cut, it was David Ayer who remained the director until the end. However, his original vision was scrapped by the executives until the final product, the Suicide Squad released in 2016, got into theaters. It was totally changed as if what was released to the public was not his vision at all.

Repeatedly, Warner Bros. turned down the idea of having an Ayer Cut released and the film is not even in line to be developed in the studio.
